Role Profile – Homing Officer, Macclesfield Cats Protection Branch

• Are you well organised, a good planner and great dealing with the public? Do you have a good telephone manner, and the ability to liaise with other volunteers, coupled with a passion to really help cats?

Yes? Then maybe you could help! The work of the branch Homing Officer is to deal with the public on the telephone and manage the branch’s homing operations. In many cases you will be the public’s first interaction with Cats Protection.

You will work very closely with the branch Fosterers and Home Visitors and also with other volunteers within the Branch, i.e. Lost and Found Officer, Trapping Officer, Website Monitor and Co-ordinator. Your efficiency will directly help to increase the numbers of cats homed across the Macclesfield area. You will need to be well planned and have good record keeping skills, so you know which fosterers have which cats, and which fosterers are free to take incoming cats. You should also have good prioritisation skills, and be friendly and polite to the public at all times, but possess the ability to be assertive when required.

This is an excellent role on the front line. Your work will really make a difference! Don’t worry though – you don’t need to sit by the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have a dedicated Cats Protection telephone line for the branch with an answer machine service from which you retrieve messages left by the public. As long as all calls are dealt with within a reasonable timeframe, this is a role that can be done whether you work full time, part time or not at all.

Summary of Responsibilities:

To be the first point of contact for members of the public who would like to give a cat a home or who would like us to help them find a new home for their cat.

To ensure that posters are produced to advertise new cats that come into Cats Protection care (via the volunteer within the branch who has responsibility for doing so).
