LUCKY

After our cat Thomas died who was 15yrs old a couple of years ago, we decided after this length of time that we were finally ready to have another cat.
This is Lucky our beautiful black cat who we adopted when he was just turned 1 year old in
September 2010. We were his fourth owners in his young life (through no fault of his own) and he
was being looked after by Natalie, one of the Fosterers. Lucky was advertised as an “affectionate
male cat who would suit a family”. This is so true, Lucky is really tolerant of children and is always
around my 9 and 7yrs olds who adore him as we all do.
On the first couple of days, we hardly saw Lucky as he hid under the bed in the spare bedroom and only came out to get some food and water/litter when the house was quiet. Two days later though he started to settle in really well. When we got Lucky we were told that even though he is affectionate once he knows you, he is nervous of strangers and this is true, he will run away if someone new comes to the door. However, he has settled in really well and loves all the attention and cuddles he gets from us all. He has his favourite spot on the settee in the Lounge, a little bed on the landing and a warm spot under our bed (where the pipes are warm) so he has a variety of places he can snuggle up to. Lucky also loves playing with his toys and he is sometimes like a dog, he comes and drops his toy mouse at our feet for us to throw it at him again so he can catch it! It was quite evident that Lucky had never been outside, (it took him two hours to put his paw onto the patio) and from his behaviour we knew that he didn’t like being out for long. We have taken it really slowly and let him out when he decides and he is getting better now, you would say he is a semi-indoor cat at the moment but we hope his confidence will increase gradually, we are in hurry.
We had a lovely Christmas and the children were very excited when “Santa” had put some presents in a stocking just for Lucky!
Natalie, Lucky’s Fosterer has been really supportive throughout and I am still in touch with her now to update her on how Lucky is.
We have been truly blessed with our gorgeous black panther! How “Lucky” are we!
Thank you Cats Protection.
